NOTICE TO ALL NSSA PENSIONERS
The National Social Security Authority (NSSA) wishes to advise the following changes as approved by the Honourable Minister of Labour and Social Services.
1. PENSION AND OTHER BENEFITS SCHEME (POBS) S.I 393/93 (COMMONLY KNOWN AS THE NATIONAL
PENSION SCHEME)
New Insurable Earnings Ceiling
With effect from 1 May 2010, the Insurable Earnings Ceiling from which deductions are made has been set at Two Hundred Dollars (US$200) per month.
New Contribution Rate
The contribution rate has been reduced from 4% to 3% with effect from 1 May 2010. Employees will contribute 3%, with the employer contributing an equal amount towards the employee’s contribution making a total of 6%. These changes have been gazetted in terms of Statutory Instrument 83 of 2010.
Examples
i) Maximum Insurable Earnings Salary for highest earner = USD200,00 per month
Employee Contribution: 3% of USD200.00 = USD 6.00
Employer Contribution: 3% of USD200.00 = USD 6.00
Total Contribution: 6% of USD200.00 = USD 12.00
ii) For earnings below USD200,00 per month apply 3% on actual salary
Employee’s actual salary e.g = USD150.00 per month
Employee’s Contribution: 3% of USD150.00 = USD 4.50
Employer’s Contribution: 3% of USD150.00 = USD 4.50
Total Contribution: 6% of 150.00 = USD 9.00
2. ACCIDENT PREVENTION AND WORKERS’ COMPENSATION SCHEME
(WCIF) S.I 68/90
Assessment Rates
Employers’ Assessment Rates for the year ending 31 December 2010 have been gazetted in terms of Statutory Instrument 81 of 2010 and would be with effect from 1 May 2010. The rates which have been “significantly revised downwards” are obtainable from the nearest NSSA office or Printflow (Pvt) Ltd (Government Printers) offices.
Insurable Earnings Ceiling for WCIF
The new insurable earnings ceiling for the National Pension Scheme (POBS) does not apply to WCIF. Assessment rates apply to the full basic wages.
