The benefits are Periodical Payments In Respect Of Loss Of Earnings, Medical Costs, Funeral Grant and Lump Sum.
Periodical Payments In Respect Of Loss Of Earnings
Provision of compensatory income where this has been reduced or stopped due to work related accidents and sickness..
Guarantee of continual payment of normal monthly wages for the first 30 days following an accident. The Authority will only pay a maximum claim of $50,000.00 which is the current ceiling for maximum insurable earnings and a percentage thereof after the initial 30 days as shown by the following table:
80% of the first $7,500.00 = $6,000.00
60% of the next $7,500.00 = $4,500.00
50% of the next $10,000.00 = $5,000.00
40% of the next $25,000.00 = $10,000.00
Maximum rate $50,000.00 per month = $25,500.00 per month of earnings.
The following are example shows how this system works:
(a) A person earning $60,000 per month who is off work for 40 days gets $50,000.00 for the first 30 days and after 30 days the person gets $25,500.00 x 10/30 days = $8,500.00
Total for 40 days = $58,500.00.
Medical Costs
The payment of all medical fees including transport, drugs, hospital and provision of artificial appliances for the injury or illness that is work reklated, is catered for by NSSA.
Funeral Grant
In the unfortunate event of an insured worker losing their life as a result of work related accident a maximum of $1,000,000.00 is paid towards funeral expenses.
Lump Sum
Where a worker's injury results in permanent disablement, compensation will be paid to the worker as a lump sum if the disability is less than 30% and the worker's pension is less than $1,100.00 per month. A children's allowance is included and paid according to the following table:
1 child - 12 1/2% of worker's pension
2 children - 17 1/2% of worker's pension
3 children - 22 1/2% of worker's pension
4 children - 27 1/2% of worker's pension
5 children - 32 1/2% of worker's pension
6th child or more will be paid at a rate determined by the General Manager.
