Purpose
To contribute to occupational accident prevention, employee safety & health by generating knowledge and information through targeted research as well as provision of technical expertise in the areas of occupational hygiene and ergonomics.
Objectives
To conduct targeted Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) research in order to reduce and or eliminate occupational diseases and injuries among workers in high-risk sectors
Ensure high standards of occupational hygiene in Zimbabwe industries
Promote ergonomic risk management in industry
Establish and regularly review OSH standards with regards to exposure limits for known workplace stresses
Publish the On-Guard Magazine regularly – An Aid to OSH and ensure its dissemination to all industrial sectors
Key Activities
To conduct OSH research in high risk workplace settings
Identify, evaluate and determine appropriate control measures for workplace hazards and occupational hygiene services
Formulate, review and set standards for regulatory processing and implementation for exposure limits and ergonomics
Carry out ergonomic studies on the workplace and machinery/equipment design in relation to the operator or employee
Source and collate OSH information for publication in the On-Guard Magazine
Consistently high and increasing number of occupational accidents and diseases continue to sterm from lack of attention to good ergonomics practices in the workplace.
