The department work with clients to achieve a fulfilled and satisfied state in life through use of purposeful activities and other interventions. The treatment programmes are designed to achieve functional outcomes which promote health, prevent injury or disability and develop, improve sustain or restore the highest possible level of independence.
Manual techniques, splinting, adaptive equipment, energy conservation and Activities Daily Living training are some of the interventions used. In addition to dealing with an individual’s physical well-being, the Therapists address psychological, social, environmental factors that may hinder an individual’s functioning in different ways.
In work placement, the therapist assesses demands of the workplace, evaluate an individual’s abilities as well as barriers to task completion specific to a setting. This is done to optimize worker performance and minimize the risk of re-injuries.
